Hong Kong trip 28 Dec 08, Day 4

The last day in Hong Kong and we had yet to try any fabulous dim sum meal here. Having said that, the hotel location was quite far from Kowloon or Central. So, we had to settle for a nearby eatery. We decided to go to New Town Plaza, a huge shopping mall located within walking distance from the hotel.

Since it was only 8.30 am, there were just a few food outlets open for breakfast. Hence, we chose Maxim's MX located at level 4 which is one of the famous fast food chains in Hong Kong. They have a variety of breakfast sets to choose from, mostly are dim sum. The menu was displayed in front of the entrance using a large signboard.

We ordered three sets with a combination of porridge, char siew pau with milk tea; porridge, fried yam cake with milk tea and fried mee, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs with coffee. The char siew pau looked like a mini version of the normal sized pau but the filings tasted pretty good. As for the porridge, it was passable and my only gripe was the lacked of ingredients. The portion of fried mee was quite big for one person. However, it wasn't good at all as it was very salty. Overall, the breakfast meal was only satisfactory but it was quite reasonable at HKD57 (RM26).

Before we headed back to our hotel, we wanted to buy some snacks or buns to fill our tummy while waiting for our flight at the airport. As we walked around, we came upon A-1 Bakery at level 1. They had a wide variety of buns, breads and cakes. We spent a lot of time comtemplating which type of buns to buy. A rather unique bread was their "pontikege". This was the first time we tried it; but it tasted quite nice, though.

Chocolate Pontikege HKD3 per piece / HKD13 for 5 pieces

This concept of a "green" outdoor smoking zone is exceptionally brilliant and worthy of praise. I hope we can emulate it over here in all our shopping complexes. Bolehkah?

After we checked in at Hong Kong International Airport and passed the immigration counter, we decided to have a quick lunch at Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits. Basically, they were selling snacks like fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, onion rings and fries. Just like any other fast food outlet, nothing worth mentioning here. Anyway, I always wonder why Penang has very limited choices of fast food outlets. Hmm...

Then, off we went to board the flight back home.

This is the end of the chapter for my Hong Kong trip. Au Revoir..

  2. Yah, I also hope more HK based fast food outlets open here. I suppose both Kim Gary and Wong Kok operate only in Msia. They don't look 'authentic' to me, do they?
