Kedai Kopi & Makanan Tan Kee @ Lunas

Chinese New Year's eve. We'll be ushering in the year of the Ox! How about some roasted duck for a start? When I was working in Kulim a few years back, the finest roasted duck within the vicinity was at Tan Kee Roast Duck Restaurant. Obviously, they are indeed very famous as throngs of people from Penang do not mind the journey to Lunas just to savour this dish.

Try 'googling' up this place and you will be amazed by the number of reviews, tags and guides in food blogs. I noticed that they have changed their name from Restoran Itik Panggang Tan Kee (signboard on the left) to Kedai Kopi & Makanan Tan Kee (signboard in red). Are they "downgrading" from a restaurant to a coffee shop?

The place is usually crowded during lunch.

Half Roast Duck (RM12.00)

So, let's start with the infamous roasted duck. The meat was delightfully tender and juicy. The skin though was not as crispy as what I had expected, but was rich in flavour. Each bite would tingles your tastebuds. Combine this with their garlic chili sauce to unleash a heavenly sensation. We devoured the half roast duck to the bones. Delicious!

Taugeh (bean sprouts) RM4.00
Sprinkled with spring onions and fried garlic, the bean sprouts were fat and crunchy. Highly recommended as a side dish.

Chai Boey (RM3.00)

A soupy concoction of kai choy, dried chillis and leftovers of duck meat. It was quite sour and a little spicy. Could have been better if they threw in some siew bak (roasted pork). Nevertheless, it's a perfect side dish for roasted duck rice.

Comments

  1. The roast duck look appetizing...and the chai boey too though look a bit oily but should be nice to go with white rice

  2. Laurence, appetizing indeed! The chai boey was a bit oily due to the roasted duck skin.
