Lean Gaik Hokkien Mee @ Chai Leng Park

Day 3 of Chinese New Year and majority of hawker stalls were still closed. Surprisingly, Lean Gaik Hokkien Mee was opened for business. It is located at Chai Leng Park, a well known place in Butterworth for hawkers' food. When you are in Chai Leng Park, turn into Lebuh Kurau 3 and the kopitiam (coffee shop) is just opposite the wet market.

They serve Hokkien mee of course, as well as Loh mee. For non-Penangites, Hokkien mee is actually Prawn mee. Though they specialize in Hokkien mee, there is another distinctive feature of this kopitiam. Customers get to choose a variety of extra ingredients to add into the bowl or as a side dish. These include prawns, pork ribs, roasted pork, pig's trotter, chicken leg and eggs.

Hokkien Mee (RM3.00)

Pig's trotters (RM5.00)

The Hokkien mee came with the usual servings of ingredient. So, we ordered a plate of Pig's trotters as a side dish. The soup was tasty and even more delicious when taken with the Pig's trotter. I added more chili paste (provided on the table) for that extra hot and spicy flavour.
