Abu Nasi Kandar @ Bali Bali Cafe

The only nasi kandar outlet in Penang that I would recommend going to is not Kassim Mustafa, Pelita or any other 24-hour mamak chain; but rather Abu Nasi Kandar! Initially, Abu Nasi Kandar started out selling in a hawkers cart by the road side along Jalan Sungai Dua (opposite Tesco Extra). Then, they moved into Bali Bali Cafe located just a few blocks away.

Bali Bali Cafe houses many hawker stalls selling a variety of food. You'll be spoilt for choice here.

Abu Nasi Kandar would usually open from 6.00 pm. Apart from plain rice, they even served tomato rice or dalcha rice. Most of the dishes are common like fried chicken, sotong, curry fish, big prawns, beef and salted egg. Their most popular dish is undeniably the fried chicken. They were constantly sold out! Believe me. To meet the demand, they fried the chicken then and there. Cool eh..

A plate of rice with fried chicken, beef, prawn and brinjal. (RM6.80)

Mix all the different curry into the rice would make your taste buds go into a frenzy of inconcievable proportions. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy. The prawn was quite fresh and delicious. The beef was tender and the gravy was rather spicy but nonetheless extremely tasty. Each mouthful of this nasi kandar would make me yearn for more. Fantastic!

Nothing beats having my favourite nasi kandar with a cup of "teh peng" to quench the thirst after a hot and spicy meal.

  1. wow, that place of nasi kandar you had is SO cheap! (for nasi kandar standard lah) Here, I think it'd cost RM10 at least!

there's hardly any (actually none) nice nasi kandar at where I am staying.. Penang lang are so lucky haha.

  2. Depending on the type of dish, the owner can be inconsistent in the pricing. Overall, I think it's reasonable as compared to the 24-hour mamak chains like Kayu.

Haha.. you should move back to Penang.
